A look at the types of coverage dupyra handles for television newsrooms, from breaking stories on location to studio interviews and live reports from outside the studio.

Coverage from the field and the studio

These scenes show how our crews work on typical newsroom assignments. Each one reflects a routine we use on location or in the edit suite, from first shot to the delivered file.

  1. Breaking story filmed on a city street

The operator frames wide establishing shots first, then closer detail, while the sound recordist captures clean ambient audio. This gives the editor options when the package is cut.

  2. Rapid edit of location footage

Raw clips are logged, trimmed and assembled into a package that matches the newsroom's specification. A final check covers picture, sound levels and file naming before delivery.

  3. Studio interview with an expert guest

The guest is seated, lit and miked before recording begins, with the background kept plain. The result is a clean interview the newsroom can use in full or in cuts.

  4. Live report from outside the studio

A tripod-mounted camera and portable feed kit are set up and tested before the reporter goes on air. The crew stays on hand through the whole broadcast.

  5. Newsroom ingest and hand-over set-up

We review how files arrive, agree a naming pattern and set a simple hand-over routine. Editors can then find the right clip without asking who shot it.

  6. Camera training session for staff

Learners practise framing, lighting and sound on a short, realistic news scenario. Callum Reid reviews each attempt with them on the spot.

Working record

What more than a decade of news video looks like

dupyra was founded in 2014 and has worked from Stirling for twelve years. In that time the work has stayed the same in its aims: accurate pictures, clean sound and files delivered in the format a newsroom asks for. Fiona MacLeod, who founded the company after years as a news producer, still plans coverage and keeps each shoot to its brief.

How we work

The habits behind each piece of coverage

Good news video depends less on equipment than on routine. These are the habits our crews apply to every assignment, whatever the story or the length of the job.

Accuracy on location

The crew confirms the facts of the shoot before filming: place, subject and the names of anyone appearing. Captions and notes travel with the footage, so the editor does not have to guess what was filmed. If something is unclear, we tell the newsroom rather than assume. Pictures are framed to show what happened without leading the viewer. This care costs little on the day and prevents mistakes later, when a bulletin is already close to air.

Speed without shortcuts

A fast turnaround comes from preparation. Kit is checked before the crew leaves, batteries and cards are ready, and the delivery format is agreed in advance. Priya Sharma edits against the specification from the start, instead of fixing problems afterwards. Quick work still includes a final check of picture, sound and file names. We would rather report honestly how long something takes than promise a time we cannot keep.

Clarity in the finished file

A newsroom should be able to open a delivered file and use it. That means steady pictures, balanced sound, sensible clip lengths and names that make sense on an ingest list. We keep a plain structure for every delivery and add short notes where context matters. If your system needs something different, tell us and we adjust. The aim is that your editors spend their time on the story, not on tidying our files.
