How it works

From first enquiry to delivered footage

Every job follows the same sequence, whether it is a crew sent to a breaking story or a training day. You always know who is going where, what has been agreed and when material will reach you. Duncan Fraser coordinates each stage.

  1. Enquiry through the contact page

You send the details through the contact form: the story or project, location, the format you need and who the newsroom contact is. Duncan Fraser reads it and replies with any questions we need answered.

  2. Written quotation or confirmation

We put the scope, crew, delivery format and price in writing. Nothing is booked until you have read it and replied, so both sides work from the same description of the job.

  3. Crew, kit and scheduling

Fiona MacLeod plans coverage and keeps the shoot to the agreed brief. We assign the crew, prepare the kit for the location and confirm travel and call times with your newsroom contact.

  4. Filming, editing and checking

The crew films on location or in the studio. Footage is edited where the job includes it and checked against the broadcast specification before anything leaves our hands.

  5. Delivery and invoice

Files are sent in the format your newsroom asked for, with clear names so they are easy to ingest. We then issue an invoice, payable by bank transfer.

Before we start

What helps us get your job right first time

A short, clear brief saves time on a story that is moving fast. These are the points that make the biggest difference, and the order in which the costs of a job usually build up.

Information to send

Tell us the story in a sentence or two, the location with a postcode, and the time you need the crew there. Say who will meet them and how to reach that person. Add the format and length you expect back, and any file naming your ingest system needs. If access or permissions are uncertain, say so early. A brief that is short and exact gets a faster, more reliable answer than a long one that leaves gaps.

Delivery formats

Newsrooms differ in codecs, frame rates, loudness levels and how files are named. Send us your specification, or the name of the person who can, and we work to it from the first shot. If you are not sure, Priya Sharma can talk through the options with your technical staff. We would rather check a requirement before filming than discover a mismatch when the file arrives.

How costs build up

A price starts with the service chosen, whether a crew, an edit, a studio session, a live link or training. Travel, crew size, kit and the amount of editing then change it. The details are on the Prices page. Everything is stated in the written quotation before work begins, and an invoice follows delivery, so there are no costs you have not already seen.

Questions we are often asked

Answers to what newsroom editors and producers ask before booking a job. If your question is not here, send it through the contact page and Duncan Fraser will reply.

How do I request a crew for a developing story?

Use the contact form on the contact page and give the story, location, timing and the person who will meet the crew. Duncan Fraser reads each enquiry and replies with any questions. Once the details are clear, we send a written quotation or confirmation for you to approve before the crew is booked.

Where do you travel to?

We are based in Stirling and travel across Scotland and the north of England. If your story is further afield, tell us the location in your enquiry and we will say honestly whether we can cover it and what the travel would involve.

Can you deliver in our newsroom's file format?

Yes. Send us your specification, covering codec, frame rate, audio levels and file naming, and we work to it. Priya Sharma checks footage against the specification before it is sent, so the files are ready for your ingest without extra conversion on your side.

Do you provide editing as well as filming?

Rapid Edit and Delivery is a separate service, and it can follow a shoot by our crew or work on raw footage you send us. We cut it into a broadcast-ready package. The quotation states clearly whether editing is included in the job.

What does the studio interview service involve?

We record guests, experts and presenters in a lit studio to broadcast standard, with attention to sound, framing and background. Tell us who is appearing, the length of the conversation and the format you need, and we confirm the set-up in writing.

How does a live link or remote report work?

We bring portable live-feed kit and a trained crew to the reporter's location. The link is set up and tested before the broadcast, and the crew stays to support the reporter while it runs. Location details help us prepare.

Can you train our own camera staff?

Camera Technique Training covers framing, lighting and sound for fast-moving news stories. Sessions are short and practical, led by our crew. Tell us who will attend and what they already do, and we shape the session around that.

How do I pay, and what if plans change?

After delivery we send an invoice, paid by bank transfer. Cancellations and refunds follow our payment and refund policy, which is set out on its own page. If plans change, contact Duncan Fraser as early as you can.
